3 Fresh Faces for next season's Omantel Professional League
Sun,15-May-16

The Omantel Professional League, is all set to host 3 new teams to the competition since the league turned professional in the 2013-14 season.

The 3 teams promoted in the 2015-16 season are Rustaq, Oman Club and Jalan - a prize well deserved after a tough season in the First Division.

Rustaq come to the Omantel Professional League after an empathic performance in the First Division as they emerged champions to secure their place in the Omantel Professional League. They topped their group and beat the best teams soon after to take the title.

It is indeed a very important moment for the club to be promoted as they are one of Oman’s older clubs and staking a claim and competing with the very top teams in Oman is what is expected at a club that has so much history.

Oman Club, the Sultanate’s oldest and first club, are the first to be promoted. They have a rich history of competing in the top division and have been trying to find their way back to it after getting relegated a few seasons ago, a couple of years before the advent of the professional era.

A club as steeped in football history as Oman are, they are bound to compete hard in the Omantel Professional League as they take on the best and work to restore the pride and legacy that come with a club of their standing.

The final team to step into the Professional league for the first time are Jalan, playing Oman’s top tier football for the first time. They had a harder path to qualification as they beat Musannah in a playoff to secure their first season in the Omantel Professional League.

Jalan look like they will be wildcards next season. Their first top tier adventure means no one quite knows what to expect from the club. They are very well supported by their fans and should draw crowds for their games as well.

The professional era of Oman’s football stays as exciting as ever. A thoroughly competitive league this past season that went down to the last minute of the season before Fanja won it makes next season’s favourites anyone’s guess even as 3 new teams take their first steps into professional football in the Omantel Professional League.
