The Oman Professional League (OPL) is a three-tier league system that currently constitutes the Omantel Professional League, the OPL First Division and the OPL Second Division.
It was formed with the vision of professionalising all three tiers and 44 officially registered clubs involved with Oman football along with club licensing and grass root development.
The OPL is moving towards this vision briskly, with one season of professional football completed in the Omantel Professional League in 2013-14 with Nahda crowned as the first ever champions of the professional era.
The idea is to establish professionalism in the top division of football and let it trickle down to the lower divisions to fully professionalise the sport in the country.
The 2013-14 was also the first time an Omani club, Al Suweiq, achieved it’s club licensing criteria set by AFC to participate in the AFC Champions League. Club licensing is also expected to be completed for clubs Fanja and Nahda in the season to come.
The Omantel Professional League continue to lay a strong foundation for professional football in the country.
